Baptism is the first step of obedience a Christian should take after they trust Jesus Christ as their Savior. Baptism does not make a person a Christian, or "wash their sins away," - but it is a public profession of a person's faith and says to the church, and the rest of the world, "I have decided to follow Jesus."
